Most online shops are a catalogue. Someone connects a supplier feed, ten thousand products appear, and nobody involved has held any of them. You can tell, because the descriptions are all written by the same machine and none of them mention a single thing that might go wrong.
Oakenrow works the other way round. There is a short shelf, and it stays short on purpose.
We start at the one-star reviews
For any category, the five-star reviews tell you very little; most were written in the first week. The one-star reviews are written six months in, and they tell you the real failure: the magnet is too weak, the battery dies in a fortnight, the coating comes off in the dishwasher. That list becomes the specification for what we look for.
We keep the range deliberately small
A short shelf means we can tell you what each product is actually for, and be honest about who should not buy it. A shop with ten thousand products has not made a single choice on your behalf.
We say what a product does not do
Every product page here includes the catch. The car mug needs a free 12V socket and it is not dishwasher safe — that is on the page, not buried in an email after you have paid.
Things come off the shelf
When the same complaint arrives twice, the product goes. That is why the shelf changes, and it is the only reason it changes.
If something we sold you fails, tell us. That message is worth more to us than the sale was.
